Rational Fixed Points for Linear Group Actions
Pietro Corvaja §1 Introduction. A general principle in the theory of diophantine equations asserts that if an equation admits " many " rational solutions, there should be a geometric reason explaining such abundance. We consider here a (multiplicative) semigroup of N ×N matrices with rational entries: we suppose that all of them admit rational eigenvalues and deduce the natural geometrical cons...
متن کاملFixed points of abelian actions on S2
We prove that if F is a finitely generated abelian group of orientation preserving C1 diffeomorphisms of R2 which leaves invariant a compact set then there is a common fixed point for all elements of F . We also show that if F is any abelian subgroup of orientation preserving C1 diffeomorphisms of S2 then there is a common fixed point for all elements of a subgroup of F with index
متن کاملEffective actions with fixed points.
The specific form of the constant term in the asymptotic expansion of the heat-kernel on an axially-symmetric space with a codimension two fixed-point set of conical singularities is used to determine the conformal change of the effective action in four dimensions. Another
متن کاملFixed Points of Circle Actions
Let X be a finitistic space with its rational cohomology isomorphic to that of the wedge sum P (n)∨S or S ∨S∨S. We study continuous S actions on X and determine the possible fixed point sets up to rational cohomology depending on whether or not X is totally non-homologous to zero in XS1 in the Borel fibration X →֒ XS1 −→ BS1 . We also give examples realizing the possible cases.
متن کاملQuotients by non-reductive algebraic group actions
Geometric invariant theory (GIT) was developed in the 1960s by Mumford in order to construct quotients of reductive group actions on algebraic varieties and hence to construct and study a number of moduli spaces, including, for example, moduli spaces of bundles over a nonsingular projective curve [26, 28]. Moduli spaces often arise naturally as quotients of varieties by algebraic group actions,...
